About Hospice

Hospice = a health-care facility for the terminally ill that emphasizes pain control and emotional support for the patient and family, typically refraining from taking extraordinary measures to prolong life.

Basically hospice is concerned with quality of life instead of quantity of life.  At this point in a person’s life it is important to ensure the person’s comfort and preserve their pride and dignity.

Part of hospice is good medical care but it goes beyond that.  The whole support system for the person can be involved.  This can mean reading to the person, praying with the person, just sitting with the person is good support and shows that you care.
